Book Clubs

River Bend is proud to host three dynamic book clubs, one focused on fantasy, one a mix of fiction and non-fiction, and a third for kids.  All are welcome to join, and we ask that you RSVP in advance.

Fantasy Book Club

Escape reality with this club, led by River Bend regular and fantasy super-fan, Kara.  Meets one Friday each month, 6:00-7:30pm.  Check the calendar for dates.  RSVP on Facebook or by calling the shop at 860.430.6608.  Share your email to receive a link to the secure Zoom meeting.

General Interest Book Club

Jane Gordon-Julien, founder of Candlelight Writing Workshops, moderates this book club, which will read a mix of fiction, non-fiction and classics.  The club currently operates 3 groups, each meeting once per month.  New participants may RSVP by calling the shop at 860.430.6608. Continuing participants should RSVP to Jane. Contact Jane for Zoom meeting details.

Middle Grade Book Club

For enthusiastic readers, grades 6-8. We explore, debate and reflect on each selection in an informal, discussion-based meeting each month. Our book club community is a lively, respectful place populated by up to 15 readers per meeting. Our MGBC is led by Deb Carroll, an educator with more than 15 years of classroom teaching experience. Deb has taught all levels of high school English and writing, and has been reading way past her bedtime since she was seven years old.

All participants in our book clubs, and at all shop events, must adhere to the River Bend Bookshop Code of Conduct.  Contact a staff member with any questions.
