OFFSITE EVENT: Dignity Grows with Jewish Federation
Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford will be recognizing Jessica Zachs, founder of Dignity Grows, an organziation dedicated to providing individuals in need with essential personal hygiene products so they can attend school and work and participate in community life without interruption.
The idea for Dignity Grows™ originated when members of the Greater Hartford Jewish Federation saw an Oscar-winning documentary about the lack of access to menstrual products for women in India, and the negative impact it has on their lives. Upon learning this is also a problem in communities across the U.S., not just in developing countries, members were moved to help those in our local community.
Founded by the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford’s Women’s Philanthropy
Dignity Grows™ began as a one-night initiative aimed at helping individuals in the Greater Hartford community who cannot afford monthly menstrual and hygiene products. The project quickly grew through word of mouth as organizations and agencies in the Hartford area learned about the mission of Dignity Grows™. Dignity Totes have been delivered to an increasing number of Distribution Partners and neighbors through a variety of non-profit agencies. We have also delivered Dignity Totes to those who have experienced devastation from hurricanes in the Caribbean.
At 8pm National Women's Philanthropy will host a virtual session of their Virtually Limitless series, focusing on Anita Diamant’s new book, "Period. End Of Sentence. " The forward is by the filmmaker behind the documentary of the same title, which inspired Dignity Grows. Jessica Zachs will serve as a panelist, alongside Anita Diamant & the documentary producer. Local women are invited to register (free) for this virtual event.
BUT FIRST.... we're holding an IN PERSON, DRIVE THRU PRE- PARTY at 5:30 in the CSB parking lot. River Bend Bookshop will be there with copies of the book. There will be a pull-over packing station for participants to each assemble 5 Dignity Grows Totes. Everyone will receive watch-along treats & goodies to take home for the virtual event. There's a suggested donation of $20 (which covers the cost of 2 totes) & registration is required.
