NEW! Middle Grade Book Club
River Bend is starting a Middle Grade Book Club! We hope you will join us.
For enthusiastic readers, grades 6-8. We will explore, debate and reflect on each selection in an informal, discussion-based meeting each month. Our book club community will be a lively, respectful place populated by up to 15 readers per meeting. Our MGBC will be led by Deb Carroll, an educator with more than 15 years of classroom teaching experience. Deb has taught all levels of high school English and writing, and has been reading way past her bedtime since she was seven years old.
June's selection is BB Alston's Amari and the Night Brothers--the first in a trilogy filled with #blackgirlmagic.
Amari and the Night Brothers is about a young girl who must earn a spot at the Bureau of Supernatural Affairs in order to find her missing brother—only to discover that her unprecedented levels of potential and power have marked her as a suspect in the ongoing fight against an evil magical threat. Perfect for fans of Tristan Strong Punches a Hole in the Sky, the Percy Jackson series, and Nevermoor.
“As a former black girl misfit who wanted nothing more in the world than to be magical, this book is a song to my soul. Amari is the heroine we all need.” -Nic Stone, #1 New York Times bestselling author of DEAR MARTIN
Weather and pandemic permitting, we will have a socially distanced, in-person meeting on the lawn at River Bend on Tuesday, June 15 at 4pm. (We will go virtual if circumstances require it!) Please plan to follow all mask-wearing and distance protocols.
Registration is limited to 15 participants, please reserve your spot through Eventbrite. See you so soon!
